Indeed, it IS a thing to decorate your Disney Cruise Line stateroom door with personalized magnets!
Anyone who has sailed before on Disney Cruise Line has no doubt passed by stateroom doors that have been decorated to the nines! On a recent Disney Wish sailing, I came across a fun Michigan football decorated door on deck ten. There were lots of other stateroom doors that were decorated too as I wandered the hallways. For those of you who haven't yet experienced this, Disney Cruise Line allows passengers to use magnetized artwork, so long as it doesn't scratch or harm their stateroom door. Quite recently, Disney Cruise Line took the plunge and even started offering stateroom magnets to buy in their shops.
If you are feeling "crafty" you can make your own stateroom magnets in anticipation of going on a future Disney Cruise. It can be as basic as printing off a favorite image, laminating it, and then placing a strong magnet or two on the back. If you aren't so inspired, you can search around various online stores (a bunch are on Etsy) to purchase some and use. If you happen to be on a cruise that has a theme (such as Halloween on the High Seas, Very MerryTime Sailings, Star Wars Day at Sea, Marvel Day at Sea) you might want to create some magnets that reflect the special theme of your sailing. Whatever you decide, don't forget to take them off your door before debarkation so that you can reuse them again on a future sailing.
Tip: On certain Disney Cruise Line ships, those in concierge will need to use stronger magnets as the concierge doors are different than regular stateroom ones. You can buy magnets at local stores either as single discs or in larger rolls. Just make sure you use plenty of magnets on the back of your creations as that will ensure they don't slip off. Some families like to put their names on magnets, while others prefer not to do so for privacy reasons. It is completely up to you. Most importantly, have fun!
